How long will my awnings last?
We use only the highest quality awning material from Sunbrella, which carries a ten year limited warranty. How long your awnings last will depend on your climate, care and storage.
Is Sunbrella fabric waterproof or flameproof?
No. Though it is water repellent, it is in not flame resistent.
Are these like the retractable awnings I see in tv?
No. These aren't the remote-control operated retractable patio awnings you've seen on tv. They're standard, custom-made window awnings. They may be folded up against your house if needed using the installed rope and pulley system (except if the projection is greater than the awning height).
Can I fold up the awning against my house?
Yes, you can easily fold up your awnings using the installed rope and pulley system. To raise the awning, tighten the ropes and secure on the cleat. To lower the awning again, just loosen the ropes and secure them on the cleat again. Please note: If the projection is greater then awning height, the awning cannot be folded up.
I have casement windows (crank-out), can I use these awnings for this type of window?
Yes, but these awnings are best for double hung windows. With casement windows, the awnings will restrict how far the window can be opened. Please call us at 570-876-1004 or email us at info@prosinshade.com with specific questions.
Measuring
Are measuring instructions available?
Yes. Click the Measure your awnings button to the left.
What is the awning height?
The awning height is the measurement from the top of the awning to the bottom. This is typically half the height of your window, plus 5 inches.
What is the projection?
The projection is the distance out from the window to the front edge of the awning. For the awnings to work properly--shed water and fold up correctly--the projection should be the same as the height up to 30". The projection may be custom ordered to twice the awning height, but the awning will not fold up.
Do I have to follow the measuring instructions, or can I order any custom size that will cover my window?
The instructions are guidelines for proper awning installation, based on standard double hung windows. If your home has unique features and you feel another size would better suit your application, feel free to order any size you'd like. Your awnings will be custom made to your specifications.
Can I order an awning with a projection that is longer than the awning height?
You can order an awning with a projection that is up to double the awning height (with the maximum projection being 48"). We do not recommend it, though, for a couple of reasons. First, to adequately shed water during rain storms, your awnings should be at a fairly steep angle. Second, the awning will not be able to fold up if the projection is greater then the awning height.
Will you send someone out to measure for my awnings?
Pros In Shade is an online business selling custom made awnings to do-it-yourselfers. We do not measure or install awnings. If you need help with measuring or installation, we suggest you call calling a local contractor or handyman.
I have shutters on my windows, will this affect the installation?
Awnings can be installed onto shutters with proper measuring. If there is no room to install on window frames then measure the awning to extend to the center of the flat inside seam of the shutter. As you attach the bracket to the shutter use screws long enough to go through the shutter and reach the frame of the window. If the out rod brackets need to be installed on the shutters, be sure to check the Box indicating that you are installing on shutters when you place your order.
I do not have recommended room above the windows, can I still install the awning.

You'll need a driver drill, screwdriver, level, measuring tape and adjustable wrench.

Can I place my order over the phone?
If you have questions or require special installation, please call us at 570-876-1004. We'll be happy to answer your questions and process your order.
Are fabric samples available?
Yes. Please email your request to info@prosinshade.com. Please limit your request to 5 samples.
Can I order a color or pattern not shown on your website?
Yes. We use Sunbrella fabrics. If there is a color or pattern not shown here, please call or email us for availability.
What credit cards do you accept?
We accept Mastercard, Visa and Discover.
Do I have to pay Sales Tax?
Pennsylvania residents will be charged 6% Sales Tax.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations must be made with-in 3 days. It is imperative we receive a phone call as well as an e-mail notification. Manufacturing of your awnings will begin within 72 hours of your order being placed.
Shipping
How much is shipping?
Ground shipping is FREE within the 48 contiguous states. Please call or email for rates to other areas.
How long will it take for my order to ship?
Please allow two weeks for custom awning fabrication.
Can I pick up my order?
No. We don't have a showroom to pick up awnings from, but we do offer free ground shipping within the 48 contiguous states.
How will my order be shipped?
Most orders will be shipped UPS Ground. Please contact us if special shipping arrangements are needed for larger orders.
Can you ship to Post Office boxes?
No. UPS Ground will cannot deliver to post office boxes.
Care and Storage
How do I care for my awnings?
- Hose down your awnings every month or so. You may use a mild solution of warm water and liquid dish detergent and clean with a soft bristle brush and sponge. DO NOT USE powerwashers, stiff brushes or chemical cleaners. These items are too harsh and will damage the material and thread.
- Keep the underside of your awning clean by brushing with a soft household broom.
- Keep all shrubbery and vines away from your awnings. Many of these plants contain acid that will damage the fabric and tend to deposit chlorophyll on the awning causing it to turn green.
- Always be on the lookout for unwanted guests who may wish to create a home in your awnings. Bees, birds and squirrels will damage the awning.
Can the awnings be left up year round?
We suggest winter removal if you live in a snowy area. Otherwise, feel free to leave them up year round.
If not, how do I remove and store them?
This type of awning is made for easy removal and reinstallation. Simply reverse the installation instructions, but leave the hardware on the house. Your awnings will need air circulation while in storage. So, roll them up and keep them in a dry place. Do not store in a damp area or in non-breathable plastic bags.
I live in an area with frequent windy conditions. Will my awnings hold up?
We manufacture a well made awning with double stitching and heavy frames. Under most weather conditions your awning should be just fine. When installing, just be sure the attachment to your house is solid.
Replacement

Return Policy
Do you have a return policy?
Because all Pros In Shade awnings are custom made to customer specification, we do not offer returns or refunds after the initial 3 day cancellation period. Please be sure that your measurements are accurate before placing your order.
Products damaged during freight and defective materials will be exchanged for replacement only. We require damage from freight be documented with the carrier at the time of delivery.
Warranty
Do you have a warranty?
Pros in Shade warrant its products workmanship for one year from date of purchase. Material and other products are covered under the manufactures warranty. Most have a warranty for 5 years from date of purchase. Please contact Pros in Shade to determine eligibility of warranty. The warranty excludes any injury due to negligence of improperly maintained or installed products or acts of nature.
Does Sunbrella fabric have a manufacturers warranty?
Sunbrella's ten year limited warranty on awning fabric is the best in the industry.
